Whiplash Superchargers is now offering an 8-10lb boost pulley as an upgrade for those of you who want maximum power above the original 5-6lb boost pulley. This pulley is making a considerable difference in power and will make your supercharger sound like a jet engine. Jay is actually doing all of the fine tuning on a CMR base tune for the Diablosport Predator that will allow everyone to do the upgrade. I have the new pulley on it's way to me along with my supercharger that recently was upgraded with the aircraft bearings. I should be able to begin installation by next weekend. I will be using the 5-6lb boost pulley for all my initial testing as so I can report the information on this blog (Quarter Mile, Dyno etc.).

Whiplash Supercharger Upgrade

The excitement of driving with my new Whiplash Supercharger on has been postponed. I decided to upgrade to the new aircraft bearings that Whiplash is now offering since I will be eventually boosting this motor quite high. These bearings offer longer life and lower heat levels which in turn can actually help add a little more power to the supercharger. They are not cheap, but well worth the money ($425). I sent it back out today to get the upgrade, and expect to have it back within a few weeks. I also found out that Whiplash will be releasing a upgraded polished billet compressor wheel, but it won't be ready for a month or so and there is no pricing or info yet! As always I will be posting the info on this blog as it comes.

Whiplash Supercharger Install Ahead Of Schedule

Installation begins this weekend!

For all of you who are interested in how this Whiplash Supercharger installs into the vehicle I will be reporting my experience following this weekend. I will also be creating updated installation instructions, as none currently exist for the 2009 Whiplash Supercharger kit. I will be including step by step instructions, photos and tools required to complete the job.

The kit being installed this weekend is the Complete Whiplash Supercharger System. Currently you can find the at http://www.lagunaspeed.com/ . The kit includes a supercharger, carriage, serpentine belt, boost gauge, Diablosport Predator with custom CMR tune, Diablosport PC interface kit (USB) and a complete intake conversion kit. The only thing you will need to supply is tools & a small piece of 3/4 heater hose (available at any autoparts store).

Now only a few more weeks before I'm back out on the 1/4 mile track to find out how much time this supercharger shaved!

Dodge Charger V6 1/4 Mile Run Times

Got my 1/4 mile run in at Auto Club Dragway in Fontana this weekend. I was hoping to get at least 3 runs in, but the place was a little crowded so I took my one run down the track and got a 16.656@ 86.12MPH. No surprise, as this is almost identical to the run time that the Los Angeles Police Department got on a 2006 model 3.5L Charger several years ago.

Just to recap! This 2007 Dodge Charger has a custom dual exhaust, Diablosport Predator tuner and was running on 91 octante with octane booster at the event.

Now It's only a matter of time before I'm back out at the track posting run times with my Whiplash Supercharger kit. Should be interesting!

1/4 Mile Run Times Coming Soon!

Well Im heading out to the Auto Club Dragway in Fontana, CA this Saturday May 30th, 2009. Conditions are looking good, and I'm hoping to get at least 7-10 good runs in. I will be posting my 1/4 times and reporting on my experience at the track. Just to recap, this car is running a custom dual exhaust, a Diablosport Predator Tuner, stock air box with stock filter, 91 octane with octane boost raising octane 3 points and running on stock 18" wheels. This will be the cars first time out at the track and I estimate the car will most likely run low 15's in the 1/4 mile.

I can feel the level of excitement rushing through my veins as this weekend pushes me closer to installing my Whiplash Supercharger. The direction I chose was to get stock or close to stock 1/4 mile run times prior to installing the supercharger so I have a good comparison as to what the difference really is. Yeah sure dyno's are good way of getting horspower figures (which I will be providing on this blog), but Im a firm believer that people really want to know what a car can do on the street. So for all of you that find value in this information it will be posted as I go!

So when will the supercharger be installed, as many people have asked? The date now is pretty much set in stone as long as all goes well. The date is set for the weekend of June 19th, 2009. Stock and Supercharged Dyno's will be posted following the install and the car should be back out at the track by the weekend of June 27th, 2009 for updated 1/4 mile run times.

THE WHIPLASH SUPERCHARGER HAS ARRIVED!!!

My polished supercharger kit arrived yesterday and I have to say it is one nice unit. This Whiplash Supercharger kit includes a boost gauge, a longer serpentine belt and the complete carriage assembly with supercharger mounted to it. The only thing I need to supply is the intake tubing from the throttle body to supercharger, a round air filter and a filter for my valve cover breather. Whiplash sent me my custom CMR tune file for my Diablosport Predator Tuner today which will be used when installation begins. I talked to Jay over at Whiplash and he estimates that the install will take no more than 2 hours...Not too bad!

So for all of you that are interested stay tuned! I will be creating up to date installation instructions to give you a good idea of how simple this is. I am also working closely with Laguna Speed Shop Inc. who is the main supplier for the Whiplash Supercharger kit's. We are working together to bring a complete kit that includes every part you need (except tools) to install right out of the box. We will also be working on giving you 1/4 mile slips and Dyno's for before and after supercharger unit is installed. Additionally, I will be taking this a step further as my main goal here is to keep up with a stock 6.1L SRT8...Yes I do dream big!

Next stage of upgrades will include: Intercooler Kit, an 8-10 pound boost pulley, JBA Headers and possibly a boost vacuum box. At this level I should have no problem taking non-supercharged 5.7L Hemi's and eating them for breakfast (LOL)....No disrespect to you Hemi owners if your reading, Im still a Mopar fan either way!

My most expensive modifications that I'm saving for last will include: Internal engine modifications, a 12 pound boost pulley, Transmission modifications and an Eibach Pro-System Plus Suspension Kit.

I will keep you all posted as the 1st phase of the project nears completion!

Free Throttle Calibration Trick!

Did you ever notice the way these cars take off in first gear? They are sluggish, lacking throttle response and no matter how hard you press the pedal they still seem to have a lot of lag to get up and go. The problem is directly linked to your ESP (Electronic Stability Program) button which is designed as a safety feature to help drivers maintain directional stability on dry pavement, snow, rain or ice. The ESP includes a Brake Assist, which provides maximum brake force for shorter stopping distances in emergency situations. This is a great feature for the vehicle, but unfortunately hinders the ability for quick launch take-offs.

For those of you who are interested I have provided information below on how to disable this feature. Of course you assume all responsibility and liability by doing this. With that said, let's get started!

THROTTLE CALIBRATION 101
(This should work on all Dodge- Charger, Challenger and Magnum<>Chrysler- 300/300C<> 2.7L & 3.5L With ESP)

Make sure your ESP button is off before doing the next 3 steps!
Put key to On position and wait for dash lights and bells to turn off (Seat belt light will stay on!)
Quickly with a decent amount of force tap your fuel pedal to the floor and release your foot as to let the pedal snap back up.
Immediately after releasing the pedal, cycle the key back to the Lock position, turn key forward and start the car.

This will bring your throttle response back to life and your car will be much more fun to drive. I do this at least 3 times a week to keep the computer in sync. If your car reverts back to original throttle settings, just apply the 4 Step process above. Remember I don't assume any responsibility or liability for doing this. Also, to note I have not had any negative issues related to doing this calibration.

Diablosport Predator Short Review

It's been 3 weeks now since the Diablosport Predator Tuner was installed in this 2007 Charger 3.5L V6 and I gotta tell you it made quite a difference! I was thoroughly impressed by the user interface and the options menu provided. The power is definitely noticeable and the car has much better take off in 1st gear. If you are looking for a quality computer tuner for your vehicle I highly suggest using the Diablosport Predator. If you are going to supercharge your 2.7L or 3.5L it's a must! Diablosport offers their custom CMR tunes which would be required to run a turbo or supercharger.
